Uncertainty continues over the Falta Assembly constituency as the Election Commission has yet to announce a clear decision on repolling despite multiple allegations of irregularities. While repolling is already underway in select booths of Magrahat West and Diamond Harbour, Falta remains under review, with reports suggesting that an unprecedented post-counting repoll is being considered.
According to official inputs, Falta has around 238 booths, and allegations have surfaced regarding EVM tampering, cameras being switched off, and irregular voting patterns. Reports also indicate that in several booths, EVMs were found with tape, while webcasting systems allegedly failed due to network issues, preventing real-time monitoring from reaching the control room.
A special observer’s report is said to have flagged concerns, including instances where nearly 58 percent voting was recorded by early afternoon, raising questions about procedural integrity. Officials are currently reviewing presiding officers’ logs and booth-level documentation, with nearly 30 booths reportedly under close scrutiny for suspected anomalies.
Multiple possibilities are now being examined by the Commission, including conducting a repoll before counting or, in a rare scenario, even after vote counting, which is legally permissible. Political parties have intensified their demands and counterclaims, while the Election Commission is expected to take a final call after evaluating all reports and evidence.
